Discover Your Favorite Artwork at the Fukuoka Art Museum, Located on the Waterfront of Ohori Park
Since its opening in 1979, the Fukuoka Art Museum, located in Ohori Park - symbol of Fukuoka City - has been loved by many people as a hub for the arts and culture. The museum houses a collection of approximately 16,000 works. From ancient to modern and contemporary art, you can enjoy a special time in a diverse artistic space.

A Metropolitan Art Museum Adjacent to Ohori Park
The Fukuoka Art Museum is an urban art museum located close to the center of Fukuoka City. It was designed by the renowned architect Kunio Maekawa, a master of Japanese architecture. The building underwent renovations in 2019, which added an entrance directly connected to Ohori Park and a new cafe, making it an even more attractive cultural facility.
On opening days, gallery tours are held from 11:00 and 14:00, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the exhibits. These tours are led by volunteer staff, encouraging dialogue and offering new perspectives on the artwork. While the gallery tours are only available in Japanese, communication is conducted in simple Japanese, so there are also participants from overseas. The museum also features a kid-friendly space, making it a friendly space for visitors with children.
A Wide Collection Ranging from Ancient to Modern and Contemporary Art
The Fukuoka Art Museum boasts a vast collection of 16,000 works. The exhibitions in the collection gallery change every 2-3 months, so you can discover something new with every visit.
A wide range of genres from classical to modern and contemporary art are introduced according to themes such as seasons and historical period. No matter how many times you visit, you will have a fresh and engaging experience.
One of the museum's iconic pieces is "Pumpkin" by Yayoi Kusama. Displayed on the second-floor outdoor plaza, it has become a popular photo spot.
Unique Experiences Only Available Here
The museum also has a cafe and restaurant on the premises. At the cafe "Aquam" on the first floor, you can enjoy breakfast even before the museum opens. There are limited-edition menus that can only be eaten here, such as "Ohori Dock", or "Ohori Choux", a cream puff inspired by Ohori Park's lush greenery, made with matcha from Hoshino Village, Fukuoka.
On the second floor, the restaurant "Prunus" is recommended for dinner. It has one of the best views in the museum, with stunning night views of Ohori Park and Fukuoka Tower.
You can also buy souvenirs in order to remember your visit at the museum shop. There are original merchandise that can only be purchased at the Fukuoka Art Museum such as "Luck-capped Cat", a figurine crafted by Hakata doll artisan Taro Osoegawa.
