To kick off their tour of Fukuoka, traveling couple ZEO first make their way to FUK LAB. 

FUK LAB specializes in a technique called “fluid art”, and allows participants to create their own pieces using it. Fluid art is characterized by the finished product where the paints do not mix with each other and form a marbled pattern on the surface they are applied to. 

After sitting down, the couple get to work straightaway. 

To start, participants must first choose the bear doll they want to paint on. Apart from the typical bear figures, there are many unique and eccentric designs to choose from allowing for creative expression. 
As for ZEO, they chose these two!

After the bear you choose your paint. At FUK LAB they have an almost uncountable number of paints to choose from. Choose whatever strikes your fancy!

Having chosen their paints, ZEO get to painting!

First off is to add the paints to a specially designed container. Because the finish product varies by the order in which you add the paints, both became very focused. With aprons and plastic gloves available, have no fear- now is the time to let your creative juices flow!

After adding your paints to the container, preparations are complete. 

Next up is pouring your selected paints onto your model in your order of choice. With fluid art, even those who have little confidence in their artistic skills can also enjoy the process, as adding the colors is stress-free. It’s hard to take your eyes off the marble-pattern colors as they mingle and congregate without mixing on the model surface.  

Voila! Their bears are ready!

Luxurious locavore dining at Au goût du jour merveille Hakata

After exercising their creativity, our pair make their way over to a premier example of French dining in Fukuoka. Their destination is Au goût du jour merveille Hakata. Located on the 8th floor of Amu Plaza Hakata, the restaurant is easily accessed from JR Hakata Station. 

Upon entering, an out-of-the-ordinary and unusual atmosphere invites you deeper inside. 

Today, ZEO will be partaking of Dinner Course B, complete with wine pairing.
No sooner have the couple entered the restaurant do they bring out the recommended champagne of the evening. With a toast, their special evening commences.

First off is the amuse. 

From left to right the amuses are as follows: a warm soup with chestnuts from Munakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture and Yamaga, Kumamoto Prefecture in an earl grey sauce; brandade of cod cooked with fresh cream; and a terrine and sable made with collagen from the head of a pig.

Following these small morsels, the three appetizers emerge. First up is a cod milt meuniere followed by a grilled eggplant terrine with Pacific saury finally an abalone risotto. 

The fish dish is a combination of seasonal Spanish mackerel and bonito greens from Munakata City, best enjoyed with the paired white wine.

Then the meat dish, roasted deer with deer jus and a blueberry sauce arrived. This sumptuous dish of deer from Hita City, Oita Prefecture, is enjoyed with the paired red wine.

Dessert consisted of Saffron and young mandarin orange gelée and granité from Okagaki-cho, Fukuoka Prefecture and chocolate crème brûlée. Not only the flavor, but the appearance and aroma of the dishes were spectacular. 

Then to round off the dinner were a few mignardises and a cup of coffee. 

This course allowed the pair to enjoy French cuisine that utilized the ingredients of the surrounding region. 

The head chef Tsuji-san explained the concept behind his restaurant as follows: “I deliberately want to use ingredients from the surrounding area as much as possible. Starting from my hometown of Okagaki and neighboring Munakata, I look throughout Kyushu for ingredients to use. By eating at our restaurant, you’ll be able to enjoy food made with ingredients from the area.”

Merveille Hakata is not only a luxurious dinner, but also a great place to enjoy Fukuoka's ingredients, making it a perfect choice for this date plan.

Enjoy the night time view in Nakasu with a fruit cocktail at Nishinakasu Gascon 

After finishing dinner at Merveille, it’s time to enjoy a drink and the night scenery at Nishinakasu Gascon. 

The establishment was opened 8 years ago when it started off as a bar, but in order to accommodate those who do not or cannot drink, they rebranded. 

The menu has many different drinks on it, but up to 80% of it can be made alcohol-free. The cocktails and beverages are just part of the fun— the owner has an incredibly entertaining manner and great sense of hospitality.

It is important to note that upon entering the establishment, the staff inform customers about the proper way to spend time there. While a basic gesture, it reflects upon the owner’s desire to cultivate a specific atmosphere, and one can feel evidence of the care he takes to do so.

After confirming the store’s code of conduct, ZEO decide on their drinks.

They settle on the “Fruits Cocktail” and the “Quirky Highball”. 
When ordering the cocktail, you can choose from both seasonal and year-round staples for the drink. Today they chose strawberry. From flavor to the amount of alcohol in the drink, the bartender will compose your drink the way you want it. 

The “Quirky Highball” on the other hand lives up to its reputation in the following way. After putting a smoker on top of the glass they infuse the beverage with the flavor of the smoked chips to further deepen the taste. 

Following these, two more fruit cocktails, the “Beauty and the Beast” and “Bubble Pop Flavor” appear on the table.
At Nishinakasu Gascon there aren’t just drinks, but performances on the menu as well.

With the “Beauty and the Beast” the owner places a rose and drink together on a plate before enclosing both of them with a lid. Then, he lights a flavored smoke inside it, with the performance beginning as soon as the master opens his doors. 

As for the “Bubble Pop Flavor”, a bubble of flavored smoke rests atop the beverage. Popping the bubble with your finger is something that never gets old!

The riverside night view, seasonal fruits, and performance all help make Nishinakasu Gascon an unforgettable experience, and an easy inclusion on this date-night list.
