This elaborate show featuring a towering 12 meter tall kazariyama is a must see!

From July 1st to July 14th an enormous decorative kazariyama float will grace Canal City Hakata. 

The unique and colorful building features a canal and fountains, which combine to create a delightful contrast between the kazariyama float and its surroundings. With water spraying high into the air, this interplay of the fountain jets with the kazariyama can only be seen at Canal City Hakata. 

Usually, kazariyama depict two different episodes from Japanese culture and folklore on two faces, but this time the kazariyama has been built so as to have four sides. This is something unique to the Canal City Hakata kazariyama. The two aspects depicted on this kazariyama include an episode from the Tale of Genji, and another depicting an episode from the military history of Kyushu featuring the warrior nobleman Fujiwara no Takaie. 

During the period of the Yamakasa festival, a collaborative show simply titled [YAMAKASA] will also be shown for a limited time at the "Canal Aqua Panorama," a visual, fountain, sound and lighting attraction! The show will bring you the power and excitement of Yamakasa with decorations and a show on a large screen.

Canal Aqua Panorama [YAMAKASA]

This collaborative performance makes use of synchronized video and jets of water from the water fountain to introduce spectators to the culture and history of Hakata Gion Yamakasa, showcasing the stirring scenes of men carrying the yamakasa into Kushida Shrine as they yell “Oisa!” in unison. 

The dynamic performance makes use of both lulls and sudden crescendos of momentum, helping to recreate some of the energetic atmosphere of the real event. You can only watch this during the Yamakasa event period, so definitely make sure not to miss it!

What is “Aqua Panorama”? 

“Aqua Panorama” is the name of the comprehensive entertainment format that makes full use of Canal City Hakata’s Grand Hyatt Fukuoka projection video equipment equivalent to approximately 2,500 inches projected on the walls and glass surfaces, the concert hall level lighting and sound equipment, and seven types of fountains, including a water screen.
