The special program "Bridging the Cosmos - Measuring the Distance to the Stars" is now showing at the Dome Theater of Fukuoka City Science Museum until late May 2025.
This program was produced to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the opening of Fukuoka City Science Museum. It explores the question everyone has wondered while gazing at the night sky: "How far away are those stars?" This work explains in an easy-to-understand manner the methods of measuring celestial distances that scientists around the world have attempted from ancient times to the present. It introduces the "Cosmic Distance Ladder", a method that combines various techniques like steps on a ladder to measure the vast distances across the universe.
