First airing on October 4, 1995, the globally popular anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion turned 30 years old in 2025.
At this exhibition, never-before-seen vivid animation cels, intricate original draft images and setting, and other documents related to the creation of this beloved series are on display. In addition, digital elements introduced in the more recent movie-series will also be featured for the first time. Even now Evangelion continues to be beloved by audiences the world over, and this exhibit serves as a festival allowing visitors to hear, see, and feel the charm of this series in a new way.
About the Evangelion series
Neon Genesis Evangelion first debuted in 1995 on television sets where it became a social phenomenon. In 2007, chief director, scriptwriter, and planner Anno Hideki began the Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition/Rebuild of Evangelion consisting of parts 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, where it became a big hit. The series continues to attract new fans, and is beloved by generations of fans. Shin Evangelion Theatrical Edition/Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time is the 4th and final release in the series.
Released on March 8, 2021, it recorded a final box office revenue of ¥10.28 billion and attracted 6.73 million viewers. Currently, it can be watched exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
