Dates:22 Nov 2025 - 30 Nov 2025

A beautiful and magical light-up event featuring the fall colors of 100 different trees!

The Fall Foliage Festival (or Momiji Festival) is held every year at Momiji Hachimangu Shrine located in Fukuoka’s Sawara-ku ward. 100 trees planted within the temple grounds turn beautiful shades of red and yellow, and nighttime illuminations featuring Japanese paper umbrellas to help create an even more fantastical atmosphere. Due to the warm weather this year, the peak viewing period is expected around early December.

This is a truly special opportunity to gaze upon the red leaves of the trees within the shrine, a long-esteemed symbol of fall in Japan. The fusion of the yellow and red leaves of the trees with traditional Japanese aesthetics creates a truly magical atmosphere.

In the evening there are beautiful illuminations in the shrine as well, making it the perfect place to visit after a day of sightseeing. Once you’ve had your fill of the light-up and foliage, then definitely pay the nearby shopping street a visit to see what daily life in Fukuoka is like—and grab a bite while you’re at it!

A special evening combining natural and traditional Japanese beauty awaits you. Together with the local businesses in the area you can enjoy a vibrant atmosphere while spending a moment in relaxation.
