Exploring the evolution of dinosaur theropods from Fukui

The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is hailed as one of the world's top three dinosaur museums, drawing dinosaur enthusiasts from across the nation to visit. Following its renovation in 2023, the museum garnered increased attention. The special exhibition “Theropod 2025,” held to celebrate its 25th anniversary, drew enthusiastic responses, attracting over 360,000 visitors—setting a new record for attendance.

This special exhibition, based on the permanent display and organized with the full cooperation of the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, focuses on theropod dinosaurs. It spotlights theropods bearing the name “Fukui,” such as ‘Fukuiraptor’ and “Fukuivenator,” and the Spinosauridae, still shrouded in mystery. It traces their evolutionary lineages alongside the latest research findings.

Furthermore, the exhibiton explore the trajectory and significance of how Fukui's excavation research, spanning over 35 years, has advanced global dinosaur studies.

The stories etched into fossils, and the learning and excitement they inspire—an intellectual adventure begins for all captivated by dinosaurs.

Plus! A life-size Spinosaurus robot, approximately 15 meters long, recreates its swimming form in a dynamic pose. Its eyes, mouth, and neck move realistically, making it seem as if the dinosaur is alive. It's a must-see!
