SORA- an art event that is bringing a fresh breath to the night in Fukuoka. Right in the middle of Fukuoka, Kyushu’s largest city, the Ohori Park Japanese Garden is now host to a magical art installation combining cutting edge digital technique with traditional Japanese aesthetics. You can only get this kind of experience here, so definitely go and check it out!

SORA is essentially an attempt to create a new way to enjoy the garden at night. Since 1927’s East Asia Industrial Exposition, the Ohori Park Japanese Garden has hosted many different cultural activities and events, and this is one that you will only be able to experience here! 

Projecting mapping has been cast on various objects created and placed amid the natural scenery, and guests can view them as they follow a trail of light set up throughout the venue. The light installations set up throughout the garden respond to the movement of spectators, making it feel like you’re conversing with a living and breathing spirit of the park! In Japan there is a naturalist worldview that gods reside in everything, and by making use of modern technology, this traditional motif is brought to life in a new way. 

With a concept of “between the darkness and light in Fukuoka at night”, SORA is the perfect opportunity to see Fukuoka in a totally different way from daytime, where the spirit of traditional Japan breathes deeply for all to see.
