This park was once a site of the battle between Mongolian and Japanese army at the time of the Bun-ei invasion (1274). The old battle field was reconstructed into the present park. There is a statue of an old emperor Kameyama who was in the reign at the time of the invasion and of Nichiren, a famous Buddhist monk of the same age. Inside the park is also Mongolian Invasion Museum and Toka-ebisu Shrine, which is dedicated to the god of happiness Ebisu. The prototype of the statue of the emperor Kameyama was made by Yamazaki Cho-un, a master of wooden sculpture and on the base of the statue, you can see the inscribed calligraphy letters (“the enemy has surrendered”) by Arisugawanomiya Taruhito, an old member of the royal family.
