The Hakata Machiya Furusatokan is a museum located in the Hakata Old Town Area that allows visitors to travel back in time to the olden days of Hakata, where they can experience the charming history and culture of the area. This year they will once again be hosting the “Traditional Mochi Making” activity where some spectators will receive freshly made mochi.
Mochi will be made in the traditional way by pounding the hot glutinous rice until it begins to take form. Musical accompaniment and revelry will accompany the experience to make it a special one. Together with members of the local squad of firemen, they will form a procession that calls to mind the spirit of spring.
