❖What is Hakata Old Town?

In the Japan’s Middle Ages, the Hakata Old Town area was once the heart of one of Japan’s most thriving cultural and commercial centers, Hakata City. As a result, the area still retains much of the history, culture, and traditions of the city from those days. 

The area is filled with historically important temples, tranquil streets, and bustling arcades that are just waiting to be explored. Traditional handicrafts and performing arts can be witnessed firsthand, and it is also possible to learn much about the love Hakata natives have for festivals and the cultures associated with them. Deepen your enjoyment and knowledge of the city by paying the old town a visit!

Kushida Jazz ~Sake & Beat~

Listen to jazz performances and compare the flavors of different Japanese sakes. There will also be kitchen cars serving food that you eat while enjoying the lovely music!

Sennennomon (Thousand-year Gate) Classical

The Hakata Sennennomon Gate will host a classical music performance! Enjoy the sublime sounds while basking in the historical atmosphere.

Jotenji Temple Night Market and Hakata Sennennomon Marché 

Come and experience a wonderful assortment of goods at the marché by Hakata Sennnennomon and experience the mysterious ambiance of the Jotenji Temple Night Market!
From day to night, tasty goodies and history intersect for this special occasion.

Hakata Old Town Festival Flower Show Tie-up Project

A special collaboration between the Hakata Old Town Festival and Fukuoka Flower Show set to make fall in Hakata even greater! Food, flowers and cooperation from specialist students will bring beauty to the festival.

Special Decorations at the Hakata Machiya Furusatokan: Digital Exhibit Project

Original lantern designs and sign towers will decorate the Hakata Machiya Furusatokan museum, with bamboo with lights within and digital footage creating a mystical atmosphere. Open from morning to night, so please stop by!

Recreation of a traditional Meiji・Taisho Era Hakata Parade

Bringing scenery from the Japan of the Meiji and Taisho eras (1868-1926) to today’s world! Commemorating 30 years of the Hakata Machiya Furusatokan museum with the Meiji・Taisho era parade!

Stamp Rally 

Collect stamps at participating shops in Hakata's old town area to receive a free Hakata-themed souvenir! Please receive the gift at the Hakata Machiya Furusatokan exhibition hall.
