A midsummer wonderland is coming to Fukuoka Castle!

The Fukuoka Castle Night Market is now open from August 8th until August 17th!

The Fukuoka Castle Night Market is powering up! This summer restaurant owners are once again gathering in the Fukuoka Castle Ruins and former site of the courthouse in Maizuru Park. In these 10 days of summer fun food stalls and kitchen cars will be bringing the delectable food, but with plenty of other fun activities there’s tons to do! There’s fun for everybody so don’t hesitate to swing on by! 

Highlights

For those interested in what this year’s Night Market is serving up, look no further.

・Bon-odori (Bon dance): at 19:30 every night from August 13th until August 15th, there will be a Bon dance! Come move to the music!
・Photo spots: there will be plenty of photo spots set up throughout the market, including ones with beautiful lanterns.
・Special guest: on August 16th special guest Predawn will take the stage!

Come in Yukata if you have one!
There are plenty of perks planned for those who come in yukata, a type of traditional light cotton kimono popular. The perfect way to celebrate in summer!

・Yukata specials: Special menus at the kitchen cars and stalls will be made available for those who come in yukata! (*Note: Jinbei will not be participating)
・Yukata try-ons: Don’t have a yukata? No problem! Yukata rentals will be possible from the nearby Mayu no Yakata. It takes just 5 minutes to get put one on so we definitely recommend it for men, women, and children alike! (*Note: yukata must be returned by 21:00)
・Traveling photo studio: A photo studio will be making its way to the market as well! You can have your photo taken by a professional photographer on the spot! Get going making some memories! 

Beating the summer heat at the market
The market will also feature plenty of ways to prevent heat related illnesses. Enjoy the festival with peace of mind!

・Water dispenser: There will be water dispensers set up throughout the market. The water is free, so please keep yourself hydrated while having fun!
・Shaded zones: For those who wish to get away from the sun, we’ve got you covered! Shade has been made available throughout the venue where possible.
・Ema fans: There will also be hand fans provided to help keep you cool! Ema are used in shrines to make prayers, and once you’re done using yours as a fan you can scribble your summery wishes on the back and hang them in a special area before you leave!

Things to see, eat, and do!

◎ The Bon dance (August 13th ~ August 15th, at 19:30)
Say summer festival, and chances are the Bon dance will be the first thing that comes to mind. So, at 19:30 every night from August 13th until August 15th, there will be a Bon dance! Come move to the music!

◎ Fukuoka Castle food corner: restaurants and kitchen cars galore! (Every day)
Only restaurants and kitchen cars that pass taste inspections are allowed to come! With a focus on restaurants located in Fukuoka, popular eateries with experience operating at outdoor events will be in abundance. Over 60 different participating restaurants, kitchen cars, and vendors are scheduled to attend!

◎ Stage programs and DJ performances (Everyday)
Plenty of stage events are also planned! Singers, dancers, and performers will be putting on shows that are sure to bring the excitement. Special guest Predawn will be taking the stage on August 16th, at 18:00.

There will also be unscheduled performances and events hosted by parkour athletes, BMX riders, street performers, and other entertainers! There will also be a separate club (booth) prepared for DJ performances outfitted with air conditioning!

◎ Traditional Japanese entertainment: monkey show (Everyday) 
Trained monkey performances are a traditional site at Japanese fairs, and this year marks the first time one will make an appearance at the Fukuoka Castle Night Market. Better yet, he’s scheduled to perform daily. An experienced showman, let the monkey and his trainer bring cheer to all who come to the market! 

◎ Alquest [August 16th ~ August 18th 16:00 ~ 20:00]
Alquest, a popular activity, will be held during the above-mentioned times!

◎ Parkour with FUKUOKA PARKOUR CONNECTION
An acrobatic sport that makes use of your entire body while you move around, parkour has been gaining in popularity over recent years. Fukuoka’s representative parkour team will be coming to put on a show as well as host a place where you can try it out for yourself. A tournament is also scheduled to be held at the same venue this summer!

◎ Performers (Everyday) 
Every year around sunset, performer Good Morning Smiley-♪ takes to the stage! World class skill, surprises, culminate in a moving performance sure to make you smile!

◎ Market and workshops (Everyday)
Must-haves at any self-respecting Japanese summer fair. Shooting ranges, goldfish scooping, yo-yo fishing, and many other activities await you in addition to a wide variety of workshops!

◎ Lantern light-up (Everyday)
Brightly illuminated lanterns will also be set-up throughout the venue. 

◎ Fortune-telling street (Everyday)
Fortune tellers will line the sides of the venue, creating an area where you can experience various types of fortune telling! Come check out the small path lined with fortune tellers and other mystics!

◎ Other free games (Everyday)
In addition to the ever-popular infinite building blocks and free table tennis, we will set up table games and toys that can be enjoyed in groups.
