The Phantom of the Opera is a perennially popular musical staged and performed by the Shiki Theatrical Company. One of Japan’s most representative theater groups, the Shiki Theatrical Company’s performance is truly spectacular in scope, and together with the iconic main pipe organ melody it has become a kind of societal symbol since it debuted in Japan in 1988. To give you an idea, approximately 8 million people have watched the musical since it was first performed in Japan! With over 8,000 performances throughout the country, it is the third most staged musical in Japan following The Lion King and Cats. 

Based on the original work by French supernatural author Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera stars the titular phantom and his ill-fated romance with Swedish soprano Christine Daaé. The beautiful reverberating tones of the pipe organ revive the distinct atmosphere of 19th century Paris, all within the magnificent opera hall.
