Tenjin/Yakuin Area | History & Culture Fukuoka Akarenga Cultural Center
The construction of this building was completed in 1909, it was designed by Kingo Tatsuno and Yasushi Kataoka, two of the most famous architects in Meiji period. It was built to house a Kyushu branch office of Nippon Life Insurance company.
It is designed in 19th century British style, with red bricks and the external walls of granite, and carries other various features such as steeples and dome structures.
It was used as a historical museum until 1990 and reopened in 1994 as a facility open for public under the name of Akarenga Bunka Kan (cultural Center), with rental conference rooms (chargeable).
