With the aim of becoming a vibrant city enriched by art, Fukuoka City is promoting Fukuoka Art Next (FaN), an initiative that creates more opportunities for people to experience art in their everyday lives while supporting the growth of artists. FaN Week 2026 will take place from Saturday, 19 September to Monday, 12 October 2026.

CollectorsⅤ-ALL MY LOVING-
The Collectors exhibition series highlights individuals who have achieved success in their professions while building distinguished art collections. This fifth edition features 43 selected works from the collections of architect NAGAYAMA Yuko and businessman HARADA Eiji.

Special Exhibition × Contemporary Artists File 2026
Yamauchi Terue Exhibition: The Shore of Living and Dying
YAMAUCHI Terue (1982–) is a Fukuoka-based artist who creates works focusing on the lives and cultures of people who live by the sea. Around 2010, she came across a photograph of an ama (female diver) standing by the shore in her natural, unadorned state; deeply drawn to the figure’s supple vitality, this encounter served as the catalyst for her to produce numerous works inspired by people whose lives are intertwined with the sea.
This solo exhibition features video works such as Crossing Tides and Tides, as well as Tide Drawings, a series created using salt and seawater collected from various locations to depict scenes Yamauchi observed while diving. Also on view are photographic and drawing works that explore the embodied knowledge, skills, and ways of life passed down through generations of people who have lived in harmony with the tides.

ITO Ryusuke: Fukuoka Women Leaping Through Time!
Visual artist and filmmaker Ito Ryusuke has attracted attention for his unique style of combining intricate models with built-in mechanisms and real-time video projections generated from their movements. In this exhibition, he transforms the entire Grand Studio into a 'giant theater,' creating a world of 'realistic virtuality' where reality and moving images, physical objects and images, constantly intersect.
The exhibition's theme is 'Fukuoka City,' a place that has flourished for over 2,000 years as a key hub for diplomacy and trade. Having fostered exchanges with the Asian continent since ancient times, the region has embraced diverse cultures and people, resulting in layers of history, culture, and human experience.

Special Exhibition:USHIJIMA Hitoshi:Theatre of the Playground－Memory, Body, and Examination
There was once an amusement park on the rooftop of a department store, one of Tenjin's iconic landmarks in Fukuoka. Playing on the rooftop and having lunch in the department store restaurant was emblematic of Japanese culture during Japan's period of rapid economic growth. These rooftop amusement parks served as important urban playgrounds, where attractions such as Ferris wheels, circuit-style rides, and kiddie rides captivated generations of children. Today, however, many of these attractions have disappeared.
Ushijima Hitoshi is an artist who finds 'beauty' in weathered discarded playground equipment and the traces left by the countless children who played on it. He transforms these elements into his own artworks. Through his work, he evokes memories of the dreams and aspirations cherished by children of that era.

Asian Art Walk
South Asia Through the Veins of Light
Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (FAAM) presents Asian Art Walk, an exhibition series throughout fiscal year 2026.
The second chapter of the series focuses on South Asia, introducing the work of artists from seven countries: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives. Along with the museum's collections, recent or commissioned pieces created especially for this exhibition will be brought together, making this a special expanded edition of the museum's regular collection exhibition.

ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA 2026
ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA (AFAF) has been held in Fukuoka since its founding in 2015, serving as a bridge between Japan and Asia.
In 2026, AFAF will celebrate its 11th edition and take place at Fukuoka Kokusai Center over four days, from Thursday, 1 October to Sunday, 4 October. Held in Fukuoka, a city that has long flourished as a gateway to Asia, AFAF aims to provide visitors with opportunities to experience the diversity, energy, and creativity of contemporary art.
