Filmset Touring in Fukuoka: “We Don’t Know Love Yet” Filming Location Tour

The world of the popular female comic has now been brought to life! Oonishi Ryusei from Naniwa Danshi plays the starring role in this love story, which also captures many iconic areas throughout Fukuoka. This movie is the adaptation of a popular comic series which goes by the same name. With Onishi Ryusei playing the leading role in the movie, the cast is an all-star ensemble of actors and actresses popular with younger generations.

The story was set and the movie filmed primarily in Fukuoka. same name. Each scene of the movie is carefully set in various locations throughout the city, and even familiar places will seem fresh and new once seen on the big screen. For those who know Fukuoka well, there is plenty to enjoy in this movie beside the story!

Of course, for those who aren’t already familiar with Fukuoka, or for those who are primarily fans of the cast of this movie or the original manga, we think that the movie could be an excellent way to get to know the city better!

Touring the filming sites of “Koi wo Shiranai Bokutachi wa (We Don't Know Love Yet)” 

Releasing on August 23rd, 2024 nationwide- “Koi wo Shiranai Bokutachi wa (We Don't Know Love Yet)” .

The original comic series has now sold upwards of 1.2 million copies (as of August 2024) and was made by Mizuno Minami, the creator of the wildly successful Rainbow Days and Welcome to Aoruhaoso. In Spring of 2024, filming for the movie took place throughout Kyushu and primarily in Fukuoka in places like Atagohama, Momochihama, and Ohori Park.

[Story]
Eiji (played by Onishi Ryusei) and Naohiko (Kubozuka Airu) are sophomores that have been friends since middle school. Eiji secretly harbors feelings for his childhood friend Izumi (Riko) who had dated Naohiko. In the same class as Izumi is Koharu (Saito Nagisa) who falls in love with Naohiko, while Mizuho (Shida Sara) begins to develop feelings for Eiji, while Taichi (Igari Souya) who has his sights set on Mizuho. Where will these intersecting feelings of unrequited love lead?!

Fureai Bridge

Selected as one of the most scenic cityscapes by “City Scenery 100”, the Seaside Momochi area is home to the Fureai Bridge and Jigyo Central Park, two of the movie’s filming locations. The Fureai Bridge in particular repeatedly appears in the movie’s most crucial scenes with its striking scenery. It has an unusual two-story structure with a corridor-style lower section and an open deck-style upper section.

While in the area you can get a look at the Mizuho PayPay Dome Fukuoka. The Hilton Fukuoka Seahawk, and Fukuoka Tower as well. The nearby BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA entertainment facility and Fukuoka City Museum with the Gold Seal on display are also located there, making Momochi an area that you can easily spend an entire day exploring.

Atago Area

Atago Shrine

The Atago area, located next to the Momochihama district, is the center of the story that appears throughout the film. Atago Shrine stands on a hillside near the Muromi River, overlooking the beach at Momochihama, where Fukuoka Tower rises above the beach. It is also known as a popular place for viewing the first sunrise and cherry blossoms, and is beloved by local residents. Atago Beach also appears repeatedly in the film, the beautiful waters of Hakata Bay illuminating the protagonists.

Ohori Park

Ohori Park is among the city’s most well-known, being a popular place to relax for locals and tourists alike. It appears primarily scenes in which Kubozuka Airu’s Naohiko goes for runs around the park with his high school club. Seeing areas of the park you recognize in the film may add another dimension to your enjoyment of the park. 

For those who have never been to Ohori Park we recommend checking out the neighboring Maizuru Park, the Japanese Garden, and Fukuoka Art Museum while you’re there as well!

Nishi Park

The highly scenic Nishi Park is also within walking distance of Ohori Park, and here scenes of the protagonists walking and talking together were filmed. We recommend seeing if you can find the scenery that they traveled during the movie!

Outside of these locations the yatai-lined Naka River also makes an appearance, which for fans of Fukuoka will make it even more fun to watch.
