Ohori・Ropponmatsu area

Here you can explore Ohori Park, one of the chief relaxation spots in the city and the surrounding area on foot. 

<The Ohori area>
Around Ohori Park you will find art museums and a traditional Japanese garden situated around the 2-kilometer perimeter of the pond at the center of the park. 

The many sweet stores and cafes surrounding the park make it the perfect place to relax. The nearby kimono rental service offered by a business here is also very popular. 

<The Ropponmatsu area>
Located conveniently on the Nanakuma subway line, the Ropponmatsu area has become well-known for its fusion of new and old, and in its many unassuming alleyways you can find plenty of charming stores and cafés.

Hakozaki・Maidashi area

History abounds in these areas where traditions still run strong.

<Hakozaki area>
The shopping street in the Hakozaki area is home to roughly 80 different businesses offering anything from food and sweets to stylish pottery and ceramics, perfect for a walk about town. 

<Maidashi area>
In the Maidashi area one can dine at restaurants offering crisp and fresh tempura as well as visit the nearby prefectural office’s 11th floor to grab a bite as well as learn more about Fukuoka in a special exhibit.

Kitazaki・Itoshima area 

Located just 30 minutes away from Fukuoka city center, one of Japan’s 100 Best Coastal Sceneries can be found here. 

<Seaside area>
Located along the Futamigaura coastline one can find the famed Sakurai Futamigaura Wedded Rocks as well as plenty of delicious restaurants and cafes that offer fresh seafood and sweets together with a beautiful sea view. 

Itoshima is also known for its oyster huts where guests can enjoy plump and milky oysters, with the Karatomari Ebisu oysters coming especially recommended. Enjoy grilling your own oysters while gazing out over the tranquil waters of Hakata Bay. There are also many other oyster huts that can be found spread out along the western side of the Itoshima Peninsula. 
*Note: oyster huts are only open during the winter. 

<Mountainside area>
In Itoshima’s more mountainous southern region you will find the Shiraito Waterfall as well as Mt. Raizan, with restaurants serving food made with brand vegetables grown in Itoshima as well as salt sourced from the sea nearby. Stop by the nearby stores selling a wide variety of goods and foodstuffs that you can take home as a souvenir.

Uminonakamichi・Shikanoshima・Wajiro area×Aburayama area×Fukuoka City Zoo and Botanical Garden experience

Enjoy a walk, or even go for a bike ride around this area known for its scenery and beautiful coastlines. Easily to get to from the city center, one can enjoy a wide variety of activities in nature! 

<Uminonkamichi Seaside Park・Shikanoshima area>
Situated between Hakata Bay and the Genkai Sea, this expansive park is perfect for taking in seasonal scenery and beautiful floral blooms all while partaking of fun activities. 

Shikanoshima is an island connected to the mainland by a sandbar and is where one can find Shikaumi Shrine devoted to maritime travel as well as the original place where the Golden Seal, a national treasure of Japan, was discovered. Atop the island there is an observation deck affording an excellent view of the surrounding area as well. The perimeter of the island is 10 kilometers long, making it great for a bike ride. 

<Aburayama・Fukuoka City Zoo and Botanical Garden>

ABURAYAMA FUKUOKA is a comprehensive outdoor activity facility located on Mt. Aburayama in southern Fukuoka City. A sweeping view of the city can be found at the campsite, where visitors can come and camp for the day totally empty-handed. Fun activities and shopping opportunities can also be found here in abundance. 

Fukuoka City Zoo and Botanical Garden features a connected zoo and botanical garden where visitors can freely move between the two areas. It houses approximately 100 animal species, including Asian elephants, and cultivates around 2,600 plant species, including roses.
